When your rack mount UPS fails or needs maintenance or a battery change, your servers will often have to face downtime while this process is undertaken.
Any rack mount UPS of 6 or 10 kVA rating will have to be hard-wired into your server rack by a qualified electrician. This can create a problem when the UPS is being serviced, as it would have to be disconnected and removed from the rack, resulting in load downtime. Additional to this is the fact that a quick swap-out of a faulty unit is not possible, as repairs usually take place at your AROS RIELLO workshop or that of another other UPS provider.
To circumnavigate this problem, Riello has developed a hot swap system to allow for rack-mount UPS units or their associated battery packs to be removed and replaced without any load downtime.
The rack-mounted detour bypass
Further to this, Standby Systems has developed a wrap-around rack-mount product allowing for easy bypassing of a rack UPS, which can then be removed for maintenance, battery changes, or repairs without load interruption. This rack-mount system manual bypass has an intelligent interface with the UPS’s RS22 port, such that closing the manual bypass will automatically transfer the UPS to static bypass and prevent reverse power feed into the inverter, which would otherwise cause catastrophic damage to the UPS and/or its battery packs.
The rack-mounted system detour bypass will fit into a regular 19-inch IT rack and is easily interfaced with APC, HUWAEI, DELTA, and the Standby Systems Pureline UPS ranges, making it very flexible for use with many UPS types.
The rack-mounted system detour bypass is available at an affordable price by comparison to similar products, which can also only be used with the same name brand UPS and without the same flexibility as this system due to its 100% local design and production.
An alternative option to the Standby Systems detour switch is the more expensive Riello UPS Mulitswitch A more intelligent option than the detour switch, this device is available in 10 amp, and 16 amp tower options, and 16 amp rack mount options. Equipped with back-feed protection, it allows for two input sources, usually a mains source and a UPS source, with various options of IT load output connections like IEC, British plug, or hard-wired terminals. It is fitted with LED status indications and allows for the transfer of IT load power feed from UPS mains or vice versa.
