Pure lead batteries have a wide range of applications for use in UPS, telecoms, energy storage and cyclic solar.
Pure lead batteries contain no contaminants within the lead. They are made through a purification production process where positive and negative lead strips are stamped out of the material. Unlike traditional pasted plate technology batteries where lead calcium alloy grids are used. The pure lead plate results in reduced water loss during charging or discharging, giving the battery product a much longer float and cycle life.
Besides pure lead batteries having a different internal composition of materials, they are also produced differently with their own unique manufacturing processes. The most notable difference is the grid thickness of a pure lead battery. By comparison, a traditional pasted plate battery is extremely thin at only 1mm, making it impossible to touch with the human hand as it would melt. Therefore, the product is 100% produced by automated robotic production lines.
Because the plates are so thin, a large number of parallel plates can fit into a small housing. This results in a large reactive surface area. A very high discharge rate high power density battery is the end result.
Pure lead batteries use minimal water and adopt a starved electrolyte technology. This holds the battery electrolyte in suspension in the absorbed glass mats between the lead plates. The result is a much higher than normal efficiency of the electrolyte gas recombination with the liquid electrolyte on recharge.
Cells are welded together using through-wall weld technology or TTP. This results in very short distances between the connections of the cells whilst the battery poles are welded using constant casting technology. The bolt inserts are 100% pure copper for lowest resistance.
Lastly the battery lids are sealed using heat seal technology and are not glued.
Service life has been defined as “a product’s total life in use from the point of sale to the point of discard” : WikiPedia
